　　A Brief Introduction to Shiyan

　　Shiyan is a beautiful and rich land. Wudang mountain and Danjiangkou reservoir are located to the east. WD is the world cultural heritage and famous holy land of Taoism. DJK reservoir is the source of the central line project of transferring water from the South to the North as well as the biggest artificial freshwater lake in Asia. To the South there are world green treasury ---Shenlongjia, where wildmen are said to be found, mysterious Heilong Cave, Bianfu Cave and Fangxian County Hot Spring. To the West the ancient Great Wall of Chu State and the long Gorgy of 18 li/ Chinese mile run along. The ape-man site in Yunxian County and dinosaur’s egg fossil in Qinglong Mountain are situated to the North. In the city there are also many tourist attractions, such as Super WD Natural Protection District, Sifang Mountain Botanical Garden, Water Garden of Huanglong Beach, religious temples including Baima Temple, Yuanyang Temple, Huilong Temple.

　　SY is rich in natural resources. Turquoise is honored as “Eastern emerald”. Yunxian County is the “village of gold”. The intergrowth mineral of gold and silver(金银共生矿) in Zhushan County is rare in China. The number of traditional local and special products amounts to over 800. The production of tremella is the highest in China. With the implementation of State Western Region Development Strategy, SY’s tourism gets its historical development opportunity. With the cooperation of Shanxi Province, it has developed the special tourist product “visiting the State of Qin in the morning and the State of Chu in the evening”, to attract more tourists from home and abroad.

　　We know that Wudang Mountain is famous for its grand scale of construction. While the ancient architecture here was built all through the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, it reached its zenith during the Ming Dynasty. It had 33 architecture complexes, covering an area of more than 300 square kilometers; after hundreds years of vicissitudes, it still covers nearly 312 square kilometers.

　　Some 72 peaks, 36 rocky cliffs, 24 streams, 10 lakes, 3 pools, and 9 springs are clustered around Tianzhu Peak. Wudang Mountain also has dense forests with many varieties of plants, including 600 of the 1,800 medicinal herbs recorded in Compendium of Materia Medica《本草纲目》 (a book on Chinese herbal medicine) compiled by the Ming Dynasty pharmacist Li Shizhen. Therefore the mountain is also known as a “natural herbal medicine treasury”.
