  假日[暑假]旅游(Travel)

  [要求]

  暑假就要到了,许多同学都会选择旅游作为度假的一种方式。的确,旅游对一个人的`身心健康颇有好处。那么就请你以下面三句话分别作为三段段首的主题句,写一篇旅游的文章。

travel is a very good means of broadening a person's perspective.

travel may relieve a person of boredom and gloom.

travelers can choose different modes of transportation which have advantages and disadvantages.

  [范文]

travel is a very good means of broadening a person's perspective. it makes you come into contact with different cultures, meet people of different colors and go through peculiar rites and ceremonies. travelling much, you will not only enrich your knowledge and experiences, but also be aware of the vastness of nature.

travel may also relieve person of boredom and gloom. travel brings you enjoyment and attraction. it gives you a pleasant experience, which will disperse your boredom and make you forget whatever annoys you. travel broadens your mind and leaves you good memories. later, you may go over these memories and enjoy your past experiences, thus keeping a fresh and sunny mind.

the field's his study, nature was his book.

travelers can choose different modes of transportation which have advantages and disadvantages. airplanes are the fastest but also the most expensive. buses and trains are less expensive, but they soon make you feel cramped and uncomfortable. ships provide you with comfort unless you get seasick. most people can afford traveling by bicycle, which, although slow, can limber up your muscles and get you closer to nature.

  择友(Choosing Friends)

everybody has his friends. some people like to choose friends who are different from themselves while others prefer those who are similar to themselves. each of the choices has its advantages.

when people have friends similar to themselves, they and their friends can chat, play, and do things together harmoniously. the result is that they all feel relaxed and can truly enjoy each other's company.

when a guy has friends different from himself, the advantage he has is that he can benefit from the contacts with different people. his friends may be different from him in character, education, occupation, social status, or political and religious beliefs. from those friends, he can learn a lot of things that he has never experienced himself and he can also enjoy being with thera when they know each other well.

comparing the advantages of both cases, i think that it would be better for me to have both kinds of friends …… some who are similar to me and some who are different from me. in this way, i can have the best of both worlds. for instance, when i want to relax or when i am too tired to be careful about my speech and manner, i can stay with those friends who are like me. but, when i feel like it, it is also possible for me to stay with those who are different from me and learn something new.

  夜(The night)

night has fallen over the country. through the trees rises the red moon, and the stars are scarcely seen. in the vast shadow of night the coolness and the dews descend. i sit at the open window to enjoy them; and hear only the voice of the summer wind. like black hulks, the shadows of the great trees ride at anchor on the billowy sea of grass. i cannot see the red and blue flowers, but i know that they are there. far away in the meadow gleams the silver charles. the tramp of horses' hoofs sounds from the wooden bridge. then all is still save the continuous wind of the summer night. sometimes i know not if it be the wind or the sound of the neighboring sea. the village clock strikes; and i feel that i am not alone.

how different it is in the city! it is late, and the crowd is gone. you step out upon the balcony, and lie in the very bosom of the cool, dewy night as if you folded her garments about you. beneath lies the public walk with trees, like a fathomless, black away with some beloved spirit plunges, and floats are still burning up and down the long street. people go by with grotesque shadows, foreshortened, and now lengtheningawayintothedarknessandvanishing, whileannowew one springs up behind the walker, and seems to pass him revolving like the sail of a windmill. the iron gates of the part shut with a jangling clang. there are footsteps and loud voices; ——a tumult; ——a drunken brawl; ——an alarm of fire; ——then silence again. and now at length the city is asleep, and we can see the night. the belated moon looks over the roofs, and finds no one to welcome her. the moonlight is broken. it lies here and there in the squares, and the opening of the streets - angular like blocks of white marble.

  乡间散步(A Walk in the Country)

it was an early summer afternoon. the sun was shining brightly and warmly. everything on the campus looked as if it had been sleeping for years. after school my roommates and i decided to take a walk along the river near our school, instead of staying with our “mr. formula” and “mrs. theorem” in the classroom.

a fresh breeze played with our hair. in the blue sky, clouds were drifting here and there. we told each other stories and jokes. songs and laughter could be heard now and then. it seemed that the world belonged to us and the earth was full of joys.

we walked and walked. before we knew it, it was nearly nightfall and all glowed red in the evening sunlight. standing on the narrow country road, we felt a bit tired, thirsty and hungry.

“look, what is it?” one of us said, pointing to something red growing by the side of the road. it was a plant, bearing some fruit, which looked so inviting that we all eager to taste it. i picked one. to my happy surprise, it was a bit sweet. everyone of us picked a lot. while eating the little red fruit, we talked of the wonderful time we had that afternoon. then a country woman came. when she saw us eating the wild fruit she let out a cry of surprise. she told us it was used to poison snakes. that meant, we thought with horror, that we were in danger.the story that some poison for mice left in the kitchen killed a lovely baby came to my mind. the more we talked, the more we were frightened. all of a sudden someone mentioned the word “death”。 we looked at each other not knowing what to do.

thinking of the coming death i felt the world was so dear that i was quite unwilling to leave her and time was so precious that i had no right to waste it.

“i should have valued my life. how i love life!” i thought, “if i am still living tomorrow morning, it will be my second life. i will not waste time any longer.”

as soon as we were back at school we showed the red fruit to our biology teacher. she told us with a smile, “that is wild strawberry。 it is not poisonous.

as the bell rang announcing it was time for self study, we had to enter the classroom without supper. though i was hungry, i should waste no time, and i worked harder than ever. how valuable life is! how precious time is!

  考试(Exams)

at the very end of the joint university entrance exam, journalists always get a funny answer from graduated students: "now, what i want to do most is burn my textbooks and exam papers." it seems few students have other ideas than to count the total number of all exam papers over a period of three years. it well be a wonderful number——over two thousand. really, such a surprising quantity of exams harms not only students' bodies but also their social development.

first, overburdening exams destroy students' health. every day, all they do is stay inside and study. students have no time for regular exercise, which is an essential part of maintaining good health. day after day they go without adequate sleep, which lowers their resistance to disease. in addition, worrying about endless exams, students lose their appetites and are incapable of relaxing themselves even during sleep. suffering from lack of exercise, little sleep, bad appetites, and long-term tension, students look pale and sick when the entrance exam ends.

besides bodies' destruction, lots of exams also make students socially narrow. without good grades, a student may consider he is useless and doomed to failure henceforth. probably, he would rather pursue high grades than deep friendship. he may take it for granted that improving his grades is more important than caring for his surroundings in his life as a student. more ridiculously, a so-called "excellent student" can refer to one who is devoted to high grades, but indifferent to the benefit of his class. his young world seems to be built on exams and grades. miserably, grades have deeply occupied his heart, brain, and dreams.

of course, the proverb of "no pains, no gains." is doubtless true. however, entering a good school at the expense of healthful bodies and social awareness is too high a cost.
