mark twain (1835-1910)， one of the best known american writers in the 19th century， was born in missouri in the middle part of the united states.
mark twain’s hometown lay on the banks of the mississippi river， where he spent his childhood. when he grew up he worked as a pilot on a river boat for some time. mark twain is his pen name. he took it from the shout of the sailors measuring the depth of the water when the water was two marks deep on the lead line.
mark twain wrote a lot of novels， one of which is the adventures of tom sawyer， the masterpiece which brought him fame and honor. some of his writings have been translated into many languages. he and his works are deeply loved by readers throughout the world.

来到教室里，那里已经有十几位同学了，我有点紧张。一会儿，上课了，一位年轻的.女教师走了进来，她笑着跟我们打招呼：“大家好，以后大家就叫我MissLin吧！”MissLin很亲切，她和我们一起唱歌、玩游戏、跳舞，还教了我们几个单词：morning、aftenrnoon、evening……我们都学得津津有味。接着，MissLin教我们做动作，把四个表示时间的单词用手势表示出来，然后，MissLin让我和另一个人比赛，看谁的反应比较快。MissLin说：“noon”我做出了相应的动作，很愦憾，比对手慢了一点。我心想：“这次我一定不能输。”于是，我竖起耳朵，仔细地听一下单词。接着老师又分别念出“morning、aftenrnoon、evening”等单词，我立刻做出相应的动作，这几次就比对手快了一些，我终于赢了。MissLin奖给了我一块小贴纸，上面有一只可爱的小松鼠，我高兴极了。最后，我还得到老师奖给我的一只小狸猫呢！

我们的英语老师还是个比较年轻的女孩，可是她生动的教学还是无法挑剔的。记忆中，她没有骂过我们，我们考差了她也不怪我们，每次上课都是微笑着走进教室。成绩差，她也只是微笑着鼓励我们，眼里是浓浓的爱意，没有丝毫的责备，虽然常常和其他班比较，但到最后却做出了自我批评，可是，这么好的老师，我们却伤透了她的心。不懂得感恩，不懂得回报，不懂得对她好。
期中考试，我们彻底垮了，跌倒了谷底，无法挽救。老师走进教室，小小的空间顿时变得凝重起来，大家都有着说不出的难过，老师走上讲台，脸上带着微笑，可是那分明是无奈的笑，我们又伤了老师的`心。她开口了：“同学们，大家都猜到了，对吗?”我们低着头，不说话。“同学们有考差了，也许，我这个做老师的有不对的地方，可是，我不敢相信我会差到这种地步。我一直相信同学们是好孩子，不会让老师失望，所以我一直坚持，一直坚信我可以把你们变得更好。虽然你们一次次让我失望，可是我还是愿意相信你们，这一次，我还是相信你们，希望这是我的错……说着，她，哭了。那眼泪滴在了心里……
