  Advertisements on TV

Nowadays there are more and more advertisements on TV ,they appear either before a tv program or after it ,and sometimes even ed between episodes of a tv serial plays, and the time of which is becoming longer and longer ,which is so boring ,and many watchers cannot wait but switch to other channels. but why this phenomenahas appeared ,the reason may be two .at the first place ,it is a methodforbusinessmen in such a highly competitive market to make their goods known by customers ,which will improve the sales amounts .

At the second place ,it is a chance for the tv station to earn money to support their programs .if i am given the chance to meet the leader of tv station ,i would like to suggest them decreasethe amounts of the advertisements relatively .maybe doing this will lose some profits, but instead, the audience rating will be improved largely.

The government responded to the universities threat by setting up the most fundamental review of higher education for a generation, under a non-party troubleshooter, Sir Ron Dearing. One in three school-leavers enters higher education, five times the number when the last review took place thirty years ago. Everyone agrees a system that is feeling the strain after rapid expansion needs a lot more moneybut there is little hope of getting it from the taxpayer and not much scope for attracting more finance from business.

Most colleges believe students should contribute to tuition costs, something that is common elsewhere in the world but would mark a revolutionary change in Britain. Universities want the government to introduce a loan scheme for tuition fees and have suspended their own threatened action for now. They await Dearings advice, hoping it will not be too latesome are already reported to be in financial difficulty.

As the century nears its end, the whole concept of what a university should be is under the microscope. Experts ponder how much they can use computers instead of classrooms, talk of the need for lifelong learning and refer to students as consumers. The Confederation of British Industry, the key employers organization, wants even more expansion in higher education to help fight competition on world markets from booming Asian economies. But the government has doubts about more expansion. The Times newspaper agrees, complaining that quality has suffered as student numbers soared, with close tutorial supervision giving way to mass production methods more typical of European universities.

I seem to recall best a journey we made by tram one winter night.

We were going to visit my Granny at Westoe, and I was very excited, because an evening excursion was something quite unheard of for me. It had been raining; the gas lamps lit the gleaming pavements and cobbles with a doubled radiance. The shaking tram wires were sending down showers of white raindrops. Everything in the ram seemed fresh and glittering. The breezy windows sparkled with long zigzags of rain and the passing street lamp flared gorgeously through the panels of blue and yellow and ruby glass. Outside, it was cold and windy, and we could feel the gale buffeting against the side of the tram, making it sway and lurch ore than usual, and throwing the passengers of song, and the fresh, clean, cold sea-wind was blowing right through the upper deck. Above, a high half-moon seemed to be skidding along on its back through piles of black, white-lined rags. It was a wild night, with a sense of magic in the offing. The people in the tram did not like ordinary mortals; a kind of exhilaratinggaietyhadseizedthem, anditseseememed to lighten their bodies and illuminate their faces. At times I was sure we were really flying.

  Teenagers and Video Games

These days most adults seem to think that most teenagers spend all of their time playing video games. However, when we surveyed 100 students in our school on the topic of video games, we discovered some interesting results.

According to the survey, playing video games was only chosen as the third favorite leisure activity, with 22 votes. Also we can see the time spent on it varies from boys to girls. Most girls spent between 0 and 2 hours one day while one more hour went for boys on average. It's apparent to show that boys are addicted to it more easily. Finally, as for the students who were interviewed, 47 percent held the view that they spent less time compared with that of last year.

It's a good phenomenon, to some degree, showing that the quality of students' leisure time is improving, though we still need to keep an eye on the future trends.

A student Julia, want to organize her essay, so she asked her professor Higgins for some advice. Here is the conversation.

  W: Hi professor, Higgins.

  M: Hi, Julia.

W: Can you help me to organize my essay?

M: Certainly, what topic have you chosen?

  W: Women in publics.

M: That topic is very broad. I think you should narrow it down.

W: Do you think I could just do women in English speaking countries

M: Well, that would be better.

W: I am interested in the pattern in those western countries, where women had the vote soon after the end of word war I.

M: It would be good to begin with a discussion of when women got the right to vote and how they use it.(以探讨女性是什么时候赢得选举权和她们如何行使这种权利开头挺好的)

W: The record of women in politics in all those countries has been similar. Less than 10 percent, I think.(在这些国家中,女性在政界所占的比例都差不多,可能都小于10%)

M: Remember, it is not what you think. You must back on your own opinions with facts. Support for all your ideas is essential.

W: OK, I also plan to discuss the role of organized women’s rights.(好的,我还打算写写女性权利的`组织方式)

M: That is a good idea but remember this term paper is only 5000 words, so you must keep your topic focused.

W: Could I bring you a rough draft next week?

M: I would prefer if you brought an outline, breaking down your main topic and subtopics. It may be a good idea to bring some of your reference material along. W: I will do that. Thank you very much.

Now the conversation is over, thank you.

W: Can you help me to organize my essay?

punctuality means observing regula r or appointed time . a man who gets up a t seven o’clock every morning is pu nctual . a man who has promised to call on a friend at five o’clock in the afternoon and actually does so at tha t hour is also punctual

punctuality is a good habit , and unp unctuality a bad one . a few minut es’delay may not be a serious mat ter , but it may have bad r es ults . get ting up five minutes late r than u sual may upset the plan of the day . calling on a friend five minutes later than the appointed time may cau se him some unexpected t rouble . moreover , habitual unpunctuality leads to indolence and even failur e in life . one delay af ter anothe r makes a man unable to exer t himself . it also proves him to be unt rustworthy .

those who ar e unpunctual s hould t ry their best to get rid of their bad habit . in doing this , they should avoid making any kind of exception . they should never say to themselves :“a few minutes’delay does not mat ter this time . i s hall never be unpunctual again .”t hose who think in this way will find excuses for delay from time to time , and will at last give up the a ttempt to cultivate the good habit .

like all other good habits , pu nctuality becomes second natur e with those who have duly cultivat ed it .

The approach of the Chinese Lunar New Year poses a national issue, concerning the necessity of holding the CCTV Spring Festival Gala. Its establishedstatus is being challenged by a growing number of people, especially by younger generations. It is increasingly difficult to cater for all tastes.

Some individuals deem that it should be canceled or replaced by otherprograms. These young people focus their attention on other forms of celebration instead of immersing themselves in TV. Despite that, the majority of mid-aged people and senior citizens uphold the importance of the traditional performance. The most striking feature of this gala is its traditionally close link with ordinary people's lives.

Most of people view this gala as an annual staple on the traditionalChinese Spring Festival Eve. They all have a restless night and glue their eyes on the television.

I am not supportive of the view that the grand gala should be abandoned. Undoubtedly, it plays a vital role in the celebration of Chinese New Year. To increase its appeal and meet young adults' need, the upcoming performance should invite some big names including super stars from Hongkong and Taiwan. We are all eagerly.anticipating this unforgettable evening show.

However, they show little interest in classic Chinese poems. They believe that these poems are of little or no value to their 1 / 5

They learn them just because they have to pass exams.

In fact, reading these poems can not only encourage readers’ These benefits are all of great importance to their learning and life. So I think teenagers should learn and recite classic Chinese poems.

I am looking forward to hearing your opinion on this.
