　　近年来，在中国大地刮起了一股“英语热”：各种英语辅导班名目繁多，数不胜数；走在大街上，随处可见听着录音机，背诵英语单词的莘莘学子；各种英语教辅书更是琳琅满目，目不暇接。在一片学习英语的浪潮中，许多人把学好英语当成成才的唯一途径，甚至有的人开始持“英语重，汉语轻”的思想。这不能不引发我们的思考。

　　英语作为一门在世界上广泛使用的语言，在各个领域发挥了重要作用。但是，我们也应看到，汉语和英语同样作为语言，并无孰优孰劣之分。《辞海》中对汉语是这样解释的：“汉语，汉族的语言。我国的通用语言。国际通用语言之一，属汉藏语系。”而它对英语的'定义是：“英语，英美等民族的语言。国际通用语言之一。属印欧语系日耳曼语族西日耳曼语支。”解释虽有些专业，但也足可见汉语和英语同样作为人类表情达意的工具，是没有高下，优劣之分的。

　　不可否认，英语如此在世界上流行，是由于英美的船坚炮利，经济基础，以及它们的国际影响。但是，作为炎黄子孙，如果我们连自己的母语都学不好，何谈振兴祖国？1870年普法战争中，法国战败，被迫将阿尔萨斯、洛林两个地区割让给普鲁士。普鲁士政府强迫占领地人民说德语，不准学校教授法语。法国小说家都德，满怀悲愤地写下了名篇《最后一课》。他说：“灭亡一个国家最有效的办法，便是灭绝这个民族的文字。”在一次“全球华人物理年会”上，虽然与会者都是黑眼睛黄皮肤的中国人，但主办方竟以所谓“国际惯例”为由，不准用汉语，而必须用英语进行发言。尽管这样，美籍华人物理学家，诺贝尔奖获得者丁肇中教授，不顾主办者的百般阻挠，仍坚持用汉语作演讲，赢得了所有与会者的敬佩。名人为我们做出了榜样。而相比之下，我们中的许多人，却还在鼓吹“英语至上”论，岂不是十分可笑？汉语是中华民族的文化瑰宝，是我们的母语，我们应该重视它。
