实用的英语作文[锦集8篇]

英语作文 篇1

The past several years have witnessed a phenomenon that a variety of promises have been arising from all walks of life. Regretfully, quite a lot of promises are sheer nonsense, just as the hen in the given cartoon commits herself to lay eggs which are round without any angles and corners and have shells, egg whites and yolks.

Odd and funny as they sound, such false promises can be seen and heard everywhere in our country. Administration departments assure to perform their tasks effectively and fairly without taking any bribes; manufacturing units guarantee to turn out products of good quality; commercial enterprises swear to provide genuine commodities and polite and enthusiastic services. Can you find anything new and substantial other than their obligations, duties and jobs in these so called promises? I guess your answer will be negative. As a matter of fact, their intention to make such commitments is nothing but to put on civilized outer clothing to please or deceive the public.

I dare say that our society is suffering corruption and cheat which are causing damage to society both materially and morally. But the hen and her like should know that by dishonest words no one can survive the intense competition under market economy system. They should remember the old saying, “Honesty is the best policy”.

英语作文 篇6

I came to study in the United States a year ago .Yet I did not know the real American society until I was injured in a car accident because after the accident I had to see a doctor and go to court.

After the accident, my roommate called a doctor for me. I was very grateful and wanted to repay him one day. But the next day, he asked me to pay him $200 for what he had done. I was astonished. He had good reason to charge me, he said. And if I wanted to collect money from the person who was responsible(尽责的,负责任的) for my injury, I’d have to have a good lawyer. And only a good doctor could help me get a good lawyer .Now that he had helped me find a good doctor, it was only fair that I should pay him.

But every day I went to see the doctor, I had to wait about 50 minutes. He would see two or three patients at the same time, and often stop treating one so as to see another. Yet he charged me $115 each time .The final examination report consisted of ten lines, and it cost me $215.

My lawyer was all smiles the first time we met. But after that he avoided(避免) seeing me at all. He knew very well the other party was responsible for the accident, yet he hardly did anything. He simply waited to collect his money. He was so irresponsible that I dismissed(解雇) him. And he made me pay him $770.

Now I had to act as my own lawyer. Due to my inexperience, I told the insurance(保险) company the date I was leaving America. Knowing that, they played for time…and I left without getting a cent.

  C. ask as a price D. claim(声言,宣称)

  54. Both the doctor and the lawyer in this passage are very__________.

  A. friendly B. selfish C. professional D. busy

  55. What conclusion can you draw from the story?

  A. Going to court is something very common in America.

英语作文 篇7

A study in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery reports the development of an artificial muscle system that could restore the ability to blink to stroke and injury patients. Cynthia Graber reports

Most of us blink without thinking. But people who’ve sustained strokes or combat injuries can lose their ability to blink. Which is important for lubricating and cleaning the eye. Surgery is an option—a small piece of muscle transplanted from the leg can sometimes work. But the operation takes 10 hours and has its own dangers. So scientists at the University of California, Davis, Medical Center are developing artificial muscles to help patients blink again, work discussed in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery.

The blink system starts with what researchers call an eyelid sling, a small piece of muscle or fabric that holds the eyelid. The sling attaches to bone around the eye. It’s then linked to an electrostatic polymer—basically a piece of flexible plastic that expands or contracts via voltage change. A tiny battery hidden in a natural hollow in the temple powers the polymer. Electrical current keeps the muscles contracted and the eyes open. Kill the current and the lid closes.

Here’s the creepy part—the mechanism’s been tested on cadavers, which are blinking away. But now that the principle is proven, in the next years real patients could be on the brink of a blink.—Cynthia Graber.

英语作文 篇8

There are vast areas of land on every continent where there is no rainfall or vegetation. It is estimated that more than 40 per cent of the land on the earth's surface is desert or desert-like. What is worse, these deserts are spreading at a surprising rate every year. If this trend continues, sand will bury almost everything in the near future.

Two reasons account for the fact that deserts are spreading. The first reason comes from nature. These areas are usually located in the far inner land where rainfall can never reach. The second reason comes from man himself. Many people regard immediate profit as a supreme value, which results in over-grazing, poor farming, tree cutting, and strip mining. All these activities leave land unprotected. Consequently, rain water washes away topsoil into rivers and oceans, wind blows away loose soil.

The expansion of deserts must be stopped if we are to survive on this planet. Man can make deserts, he can also prevent them from spreading. Stopping over grazing, poor farming, tree cutting, and strip-mining is the first step. Planting a green belt of trees along the edge of deserts is the second step. Covering the deserts with vegetation is another step. We hope man can make great efforts to develop better ways to bring the spreading deserts under control
