　　Those who advocate the ideas of reading selectively believe that you are less likely to win if you don’t excel in one field, since the competition is fierce today. For one thing, time is limited while are numerous. For another, some harmful books can corrupt one’s mind and even cause crimes.

　　Nevertheless, those who insist on reading extensively hold that people can broaden knowledge and experience by reading widely. First of all, one should always go after a greater achievement. Furthermore, only by reading extensively, can one keep abreast of time. Most important of all, knowledge is the source of power.

　　On balance, I think we should increase both the quality and quantity of our reading. That is because the significant of good reading cannot be overvalued as well as that of reading extensively.

Some people argue that divorce represents social progress in that at present people are free to have another choice if the original love is gone, while others firmly hold that both parties will be the victims of the unsuccessful marriage—if they are destined to divorce, why should they get married?

　　Personally, I think this question should be probed in depth. On the one hand, the first group is not totally correct because not all the divorces are based on the mutual understanding. Sometimes a person wants to divorce because of money, power or a third party, which is extremely unfair to the spouse. On the other hand, the second opinion seems not so satisfactory because we also witness successful examples of divorce. The first reason is that spare time belongs to us so we can deal with it freely . Besides, the internet not only makes it convenient for us to communicate with each other but also get the latest information both home and abroad. In addition, the internet enriches students’ after-class activities.

　　However, a few students are against going on line with three reasons. First of all, time on line should be limited. Moreover, most students devote time to playing or chatting on line rather than studying or looking for help. The worst is that few students even cut classes in order to play computer games. As far as I am concerned, I support the latter point. As a student, we should focus more on study instead of the internet. Besides, in our spare time, we should help parents with housework or play sports, which is better than going on line.
