　　my dear brothers and sisters, i don’t know whether you have seen the news or information about the big earthquake, which has taken place in wenchuan and its circumjacent of sichuan province. you have heard tangshan earthquake, which took place in july,28th ,1976,with 7.6 magnitude and more than 270,000 people being killed.

　　this earthquake took place in southwestern of sichuan with a magnitude of 7.8: at least 80% of buildings there have collapsed, and up to now , they–with more than 4000 aftershocks, have killed 22069 people, the figure is said to rise to about 50,000.

　　what a great disaster! if we had been warned by the related department, who has said that the foreseeing the earthquake was a tough problem all over the world, if we had paid attention to the forby act of the animals, the loss may be less. however, there is no “if”, and we must confront the fact: the ruins, the homeless people and the poor kids, who may be live without their parents…

　　every time reading the news and seeing the pictures, tears run down my face. we should never feel scared or desperate, because we can see the hope from our government, from our people, from the firms especially these of our nation, such as changhong, haier, lenovo, etc, in contrast, some foreign corporations did very badly, which has hurt our nation’s feeling. i think they can’t develop any further, unless explanations will be made and accepted by us.

　　English has been getting more and more popular in the last decade. Many countries have made English taught as the second language in schools. But why do students need English? If they do need, what do they need it for?

　　Different students learn English for different purposes. Most of the students learn English because they need to read English textbooks or journals and attend English lectures, while a few students use it to talk to English-speaking visitors, attend seminars, or write letters and reports.?

　　Whatever the purposes are, one thing is certain: Students need English, and English teaching should be strengthened in universities. However, the current teaching methods should be improved and the teaching materials should be updated to satisfy their needs.

　　Dogs belong to the canine.

　　When a dog follows its nose, it's actually being led by thee key senses. Sight:a glimpse of the enemy saves them barking up the wrong tree. Sound: a bark can be a fierce threat, but it's also how canines make their long distance calls. Smell: this tells a dog more than all the other senses put together.

　　Inside its nose are around two hundred million smell sensitive cells, forty times more than in humans. Through them the dog's brain can pick up signals from one molecule of scent in a million. It gives the dog: a completely different picture of the world, based on what it smells, rather than what it sees.

　　Flowers are irrelevant to a dog. So their scent is meaningless. But food is a serious matter. What to us is an empty plate, is covered with the smell of chicken to a hungry dog.

　　My parents live in the country. They keep a dog called Ah Fu. One day my parents went to work in the fields taking my little sister and Ah Fu along. While they were wokring, my sister walked to a river nearby. Ah Fu followed her there. She was trying to pick a flower when she fell into the river. Ah Fu barked and jumped into the water immediately . When my parents heard Ah Fu barking they ran to the river. They saw Ah Fu swimming towards the bank carrying my little sister. My parents praised Ah Fu warmly. It was our brave Ah Fu who had saved my little sister.
