英语作文 篇1

When I was about 10 years old, my older sister gave me a present. It was my first real grown-up bicycle: a three-speed, yellow and black, shiny and new. I still remember how excited I was. That bicycle was very important to me over the next few years. If I wanted to give a gift that would contribute to a child’s development, I would choose a bicycle.

Bikes are great exercise. They encourage outdoor play. Television and video games, which are the most popular children’s activities nowadays, involve mostly sitting and starting. Riding a bike makes exercise fun.

Bikes are convenient transportation, too. Without a bike you have to depend on an adult to drive you almost everywhere. With a bike you can go farther. You can ride to your friend’s bouses. If your school is close enough, you can take yourself to school. You have control over where you go, and you’re not always waiting or begging for a ride. Now you can say “Can I go ……?” instead of “Please take me!”

To me as a child, a bicycle meant independence. Not only could I could I go farther, but no one was watching where I went. The road went past the park, the pond, the woods, the 7-11 store, and more. I saw the network of little neighborhood roads from a different viewpoint. I could stop anywhere and look at whatever I wanted. Everything was my choice. Bike riding was active, not passive.

My bicycle gave me fun exercise, easy transportation, and freedom. For all these reasons, I think that a bicycle is a special present for a child.

英语作文 篇2

In recent years there has been a dramatic rise in the cell phones, which are now essential to millions of people as a convenient form of communication. In 20xx the number reached 315,000,000, with an average annual increase at 57,500,000.

Some people can now no longer imagine life without their cell phones. The fact that they are so popular proves that they are useful and convenient. Cell phones enable people to easily and quickly communicate with one another; wherever you are, you can instantly reach somebody. Cell phones eliminate the trouble of not being able to meet someone in person, and therefore increase businesss efficiency.

Mobile phones necessarily also harbor disadvantages. The radiation such phones emit is hazardous to ones health. Furthermore, if people become too reliant on the use of cell phones, our face to face skills may decline. Any new invention has its drawbacks, and such negative aspects cannot always diminish its popularity. Despite the negative effects of television, for example, the number of people who own televisions continues to grow at a tremendous rate. This is also the case with mobile phones. People wont stop eating just because of the risk ofchoking. In addition, the swift development of science and technology will likely eliminate the hazards cell phones may cause. One can safely predict, therefore, that with the introduction of new techniques, mobile phones will have more applications and become even more appealing to customers.

英语作文 篇3

scanning the brains of people in love is also helping to refine sciences grasp of loves various forms. helen fisher, a researcher at rutgers university, and the author of a new book on love, suggests it comes in three flavours: lust, romantic love and long-term attachment. there is some overlap but, in essence, these are separate phenomena, with their own emotional and motivational systems, and accompanying chemicals. these systems have evolved to enable, respectively, mating, pair-bonding and parenting.

lust, of course, involves a craving for se. jim pfaus, a psychologist at concordia university, in montreal, says the aftermath of lustful se is similar to the state induced by taking opiates. a heady mi of chemical changes occurs, including increases in the levels of serotonin, oytocin, vasopressin and endogenous opioids (the bodys natural equivalent of heroin). “this may serve many functions, to rela the body, induce pleasure and satiety, and perhaps induce bonding to the very features that one has just eperienced all this with”, says dr pfaus.

then there is attraction, or the state of being in love (what is sometimes known as romantic or obsessive love). this is a refinement of mere lust that allows people to home in on a particular mate. this state is characterised by feelings of ehilaration, and intrusive, obsessive thoughts about the object of ones affection. some researchers suggest this mental state might share neurochemical characteristics with the manic phase of manic depression. dr fishers work, however, suggests that the actual behavioural patterns of those in love—such as attempting to evoke reciprocal responses in ones loved one—resemble obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd).that raises the question of whether it is possible to “treat” this romantic state clinically, as can be done with ocd. the parents of any love-besotted teenager might want to know the answer to that. dr fisher suggests it might, indeed, be possible to inhibit feelings of romantic love, but only at its early stages. ocd is characterised by low levels of a chemical called serotonin. drugs such as prozac work by keeping serotonin hanging around in the brain for longer than normal, so they might stave off romantic feelings. (this also means that people taking anti-depressants may be jeopardising their ability to fall in love.) but once romantic love begins in earnest, it is one of the strongest drives on earth. dr fisher says it seems to be more powerful than hunger. a little serotonin would be unlikely to stifle it.wonderful though it is, romantic love is unstable—not a good basis for child-rearing. but the final stage of love, long-term attachment, allows parents to co-operate in raising children. this state, says dr fisher, is characterised by feelings of calm, security, social comfort and emotional union.

英语作文 篇4

The Three Gorges Dam project is one of the most controversial international river issues. The dam would cross the Yangtze River, which is a the third largest river in the world, at a point where the river is a mile wide. The 610 foot dam would create a 39 billion cubic meter reservoir that would stretch for 400 miles.

3 Not only is this the largest dam ever built, it is the largest construction undertaking. Financial backing has come from many national and international sources, including United States companies. China has also sought outside engineering and construction consulting from companies including Caterpillar Construction Company.

A dam on the Yangtze River was first proposed by Sun Yatsen in 1919 for power generation purposes. This prosoal never came about because of economic and political strife. Many leaders dreamed of taming the Yangtze River. Life along the Yangtze River can be treacherous because of the deadly flooding known to devastate cities and lives.

英语作文 篇6

Abacus was invented by Chinese----Confucius. It has a long history. Now, let me tell you about how abacus was invented.

Confucius was a citizen of LU. One day, the king wanted him to take care of the finance of Lu. Confucius was not good at this point. For this reason mistakes took place repeatedly. Afterwards, his wife taught him a way to solve this matter by making knots on a cord. That is to say when money comes in you tie a knot, when money goes out you undo a knot. After that, Confucius developed it into balls on poles with a frame around and the ancient abacus came into being at that moment.

From then on, the whole world started using it for calculation. And it is used by many people even now. There are also some people who collect old abacus because abacus has a long history and is very famous in the world.
