随着四级考试的临近，向来深为广大学员所头疼的作文问题再次浮出水面。在四级考试中，如果学生作文得零分，那么即使前面得了满分（即85分），其总成绩仍将视为不及格。因此写好一篇文章对参加四级考试的学生来说可谓至关重要，不容轻视。
纵观历年来的考题，我们不难发现议论文占据着七成以上的比例，因此首先我们要掌握议论文的写作要领。按照提纲进行构思，务必做到写好每段的主题句和扩展句。主题句是表达段落主题的句子，它阐明一个段落的中心思想，是段落的核心，段落中的其他各句都与它紧密相连并围绕它展开。扩展句就是解释或者说明段落中心思想的句子。写扩展句时要注意条理性，比如引出三条不同的理由可以分别用：Firstofall,furthermore,thelastbutnottheleast。
明确段落的写作思路之后，让我们具体来看句子的写作。考试实践表明，多数考生在写作上的主要欠缺不是系统的写作理论和方法，而是最基本的单句写作能力。有些同学因为对自身的实力缺乏自信所以考场上采取抄袭阅读文章里的句子这种方法来凑字数。这种做法实不足取，因为一方面容易被改卷老师发现而认为该考生有偷懒的嫌疑，另一方面考生从阅读文章里抄来的优美句子和考生自己写的错误百出的句子拼凑在一起令文章整体有不和谐之感，从而令改卷老师怀疑该考生有作弊的嫌疑。通过句子写作这一关，可参考如下步骤：
1.确保句子的正确性，即准确表达思想而且没有语法错误。以＂Therebe＂句型为例，错误的句子：Therearemanypeopleliketogotothemovies.正确表达：Therearemanypeoplewholiketogotothemovies.考生最容易犯的错误是在therebe之后又用了一个动词作谓语，使句子结构出现严重错误。除了要小心避免语法错误外，我们也不能忽视作文中经常出现的严重汉化的英语，即中式英语，比如："Manisiron,andfoodissteel.",＂Womenarehalfsidesky.＂。如何克服汉化思维关键在于动笔前先思考一下类似的英文句式，并且注意谚语的翻译不能随心所欲，尽量找到规范的翻译方式。
2.注意句式的多样性，语言生动且富于变换才能最终打动评卷老师从而获得高分。不能从头到尾都是Iam…,heis…,Ilike…,这样的简单句。
1）适当运用同位语，Environmentalpollution,aphenomenonwhichlastedanumberofyears,hasgrownmoreandmoreserious.推荐用于开头对核心名词做出解释。
2）倒装，Onlyinthiswaycanwesolvetheproblem.建议最好使用在文章结尾处更显得掷地有声。
3）无灵主语，即没有生命的东西充当主语。当我们要讲述一个经验性的事实或者常理时，不要过多使用“Ithinkthat”议论文中过多使用“I”容易影响文章的客观性。使用无灵主语就可以解决这个问题Pastexperiencehastaughtusthatweshouldnotdependonothersforeverything.(Pastexperience就是无灵主语)
4）排比，可以增强语言表达的力度和整个文章的.气势。例如在95年1月的考题“Canmoneybuyhappiness”中运用排比就可以收到比较理想的效果。Manypeopledieformoney,lieformoney,fightformoney,andevenselltheirsoulstotheDevilformoney.
以上是讲述写好句子的方法，但因为考场上时间比较紧迫，所以建议考生务必在考前背诵一些常用的理由句以防在考场上临时思路受阻而束手无策。如Itcanenrichourknowledgeandwidenourhorizon.或者Itcanincreasethegovernmentrevenueandrelievethepressureofunemployment.等等。
