　　咦？这个怎么写呀！于是我想呀，想呀……忽然，我觉得试卷正面好像有这道题目，于是，我把试卷翻过来，看了一下，果然有这道题目，然后，我把填的答案抄过来，这样，这道题目就做完了。

　　过了半个小时，我的试卷做完了，看了看时间，快要下课了，于是我检查了一遍。过了一分钟，下课铃响了，我把试卷交了上去，静静的离开了教室。

　　英语考试

　　今天中午，午休的时候。吴老师跟我们说：“下午三，四两节课英语考试”。同学们一个个惊慌失措，赶紧拿英语书复习起来，时间很快就到第三节课。

　　吴老师一进门，说：“我先给你们上课，我当时心情特紧张，因为我预习的不是太理想，不知不觉下课了。考试开始了，我启动暴走系统，我不管写多快，都是我们小组最慢的一个。因为他们写字简直比飞的还快。我一口气终于写完了，正好吴老师开始收卷了。

　　高校英语专业八级考试大纲写作部分规定：写作部分设一题，20分，要求能根据所给题目及要求撰写各类体裁的文章，文章长度约400个单词，能做到内容充实、语言通顺、用词恰当、表达得体。真题在Directions的最后会告知考生：Marks will be awarded for content, organization, grammar and appropriateness. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks。考试时间45分钟。就字数时间比来看，专八作文难度介于雅思和托福之间;就写作体裁来看，迄今为止，历年真题考的都是议论文;就出题形式来看，都是给出背景和题目的写作;就写作内容来看，考到的基本上都是考生比较熟悉的关于大学生的话题或社会常见话题。而且文章结构一律规定为三部分：introduction, body 和conclusion. 从这些方面看，专八写作对于学习英语专业达到三年或四年的学生来说并不是特别难的事。但每年仍有为数不少的考生失利，令人惋惜。

　　笔者认为，要考好专八作文，应从以下几个方面入手。

　　首先，必须对以上提到的对作文部分的要求做到充分了解，按照要求写作。有些同学由于轻视，只根据考试前自己看到的一些其他考试的英语写作模版(如大学英语六级或研究生入学考试英语写作模版)来对付八级，结果与考试要求的文章结构和字数不符，造成严重失分。

　　其次，必须在考前的一段时间做严格的限时应试练习，以保证在考场上时间比较紧张的情况下发挥出自己真正的水平。通过练习，主要是提高自己两个方面的素质：

　　一是进行逻辑思维的素质。与大学英语四、六级、考研以及专业四级考试不同，专八写作要求的字数更多，更体现思维的深度和广度，因此必须通过练习来促使自己提高逻辑思维的速度和质量。我固然会在课堂上教给大家一些常见的思维方法，如分类法、反证法、举例法、因果法等等，但更具体的素材需要大家平时去积累。其实如果没有考试，大家是会比较懒惰的，懒于去梳理自己的思维，形成比较成熟的观点。我们在这里且不多提考试的好处，关键的是我们可以以备考为契机，通过练习来提高思考的'速度，并且更重要的是养成一种勤于思考、广泛涉猎的习惯，去关心家事、国事、天下事。这样考试的时候才会有话可说，字数才会够。

　　另外一个是应用英语语言的素质。有些同学不愁没话说，思维也很有广度和深度，但英语语言还是存在问题。这里面有一部分同学是重视不够，忽视了语法问题，出现了不少诸如单复数、冠词、词性等语法错误，甚至还有标点符号错误。而更多的同学是由于缺乏写作练习，在用词和造句方面做得不够好。作为代表我国英语技能教育最高水平的考试，专八肯定会比国内其他英语考试更加重视语言的质量。其实也很简单，就是用词和造句的准确性和多样性。这里的用词准确既包括词义准确，也包括搭配准确，还包括词语的感情色彩和正式程度的准确;造句的多样是指多种英语句式的灵活运用。这要求同学们平时一定要多做辨析词义、熟记搭配的工作，并且模仿优秀的文章进行写作。

　　除此之外，大家还可以通过多读优秀范文来提高写作水平，除了看一些专业八级考试的真题范文外，还可以看看TOFEL，GRE 或IELTS的范文。另外，也可以经常阅读一些英语报刊，关注一些时事的英文表达。

　　What Caused The Financial Crisis?

　　I think we can sum up(总结,概括) the cause of our current economic crisis in one word — GREED(贪婪).

　　Over the years, mortgage lenders were happy to lend money to people who couldn‘t afford their mortgages. But they did it anyway because there was nothing to lose. These lenders were able to charge higher interest rates and make more money on sub-prime loans. If the borrowers default,they simply seized the house and put it back on the market. On top of that, they were able to pass the risk off to mortgage insurer or package these mortgages as mortgage-backed securities. Easy money!and what went wrong with our financial system?

　　The whole thing was one big scheme. Everything was great when houses were selling like hot cakes and their values go up every month. Lenders made it easier to borrow money,and the higher demand drove up house values. Higher house values means that lenders could lend out even bigger mortgages, and it also gave lenders some protection against foreclosures. All of this translates into more money for the lenders, insurers, and investors. Unfortunately, many borrowers got slammed when their adjustable mortgage finally adjusted. When too many of them couldn‘t afford to make their payments, it causes these lenders to suffer from liquidity issue and to sit on more foreclosures than they could sell. Mortgage-backed securities became more risky and worth less causing investment firms like Lehman Brothers to suffer.

　　一. 句法正确

　　(一)名词

　　单数可数名词通常不单独使用，要加上限定词，如冠词、代词，或用复数形式。(在某些固定词组中例外，如go to church, go to college, put sb. into prison)

　　(二)动词

　　1.时态

　　写作中多用一般现在时，尤其在发表观点时。

　　用一般过去时通常明确指过去发生的事情，一般有过去时间词。

　　描述图画时多用现在进行时。

　　描述图表中具体年份的数据通常用一般过去时。

　　2.单复数

　　在一般现在时、现在完成时、现在进行时、过去进行时中，如果主语是第三人称单数，谓语要用单数形式。

　　3.动词关系

　　两个及以上谓语动词不可简单并列或仅用逗号连接，应加连接词，或其中一部分变为非谓语形式或另一个句子。

　　1)使役动词make, let, have后接宾语再加不定式作补语时，不定式不带to；

　　2)动词原形不可以作主语，须改为非谓语形式，即动名词或不定式。不定式往往表示特定的或尚未发生的动作，而动名词表示一般的、经常存在的动作或状态；

　　3)分词作状语，其逻辑主语要与句子主语一致。

　　(三)代词

　　同一句中，代词与所替代的名词以及代词与代词之间在人称和单复数两方面都要一致。

　　(四)冠词

　　1. 可数名词表示一类人或事物时，要么加冠词，要么变复数；

　　2. 单词开头的字母u发本身音时，前面的冠词不用an；

　　二、句式多样

　　1. 一主一谓

　　一个简单句只能有一个主谓结构。其中可以有两个或以上并列谓语，但不可以在主语前后各有一个谓语。

　　2. 关系清楚

　　两个简单句不可以仅仅用逗号连接；

　　如为并列关系，须用并列连词，如and, or, but, so, for, while等；

　　如为主从关系，须在从句之前加从属连词，如since，because，if等；

　　否则，两句要用句号、分号、问号或感叹号隔开。

　　3. 主次分明

　　一个大句里面的两个小句只可能是并列的分句，或主句和从句，不可能都是从句，因此不得同时使用两个连词。

　　4. 主谓完整

　　英语句子必须有主语和谓语

　　5. 语序规范

　　1)特殊疑问句通常用倒装语序：“特殊疑问词 + 助动词+主语语和其他部分”，除非特殊疑问词在句中作主语或修饰主语。

　　2)间接引语或从句用陈述语序。

　　6. 连词正确

　　1)介词后通常不接that从句

　　2)先行词是人时，定语从句引导词为who 或that

　　California Developing Warning System for Water Quality at Beaches

　　LOS ANGELES— The current drought in California means less water runoff from cities and cleaner ocean water for beachgoers. Some beaches, however, are still polluted, including some tourist hotspots. Now, researchers are developing a faster way to check beach water quality.

　　The famous sun and surf of southern California may look glamorous, but what beachgoers cannot see in some of the ocean water is anything but attractive, says Angelo Bellomo of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

　　“When we have runoff from the urban environment, it could be carrying with it contamination due to animal waste, sewage overflows; and if those enter the beaches through the normal pipes that terminate in the ocean, you want to avoid contact with water during those periods,” he says.

　　Bellomo says a number of infectious diseases could be transmitted in ocean water.

　　Plenty of people, however, play in the water at the beach at Santa Monica Pier, one of the most polluted beaches in California.

　　‘A little ridiculous’

　　Public health officials are concerned and are looking at a better way of determining water quality. Water at the beaches is monitored with a lab test. If the quality is poor, a sign is posted; but, it does not necessarily reflect what is in the water that day, says Leslie Griffin with the environmental group, Heal the Bay.

　　“Right now it takes 18 to 24 hours to get those water quality results, but we think that that is a little ridiculous because we want people to know the day of when they are going in the water whether or not they can be getting sick,” Griffith says.

　　Researchers in California are developing what they call a predictive modeling system that could speed up the process, says Heal the Bay’s James Alamillo.

　　“It can take 15 minutes to produce a similar result in terms of a public health decision,” Alamillo says.

　　‘Nowcasting’

　　With the help of computers, researchers pull data from the environment and a prediction is made about the water quality of that day. It is called "Nowcasting."

　　Some of the environmental data may include wind speed and direction, wave information and historic bacterial counts, but the beaches are unique in their own way, so the models have to be tailor-made for each one.

　　So far, Angelo Bellomo says the predictive modeling looks promising.

　　“We think that the modeling that we have seen so far is generally more accurate than the testing that we are doing, and the reason for that is that even though it is a model and it's predicting water quality, it is more timely,” Bellomo says.

　　Hong Kong and the U.S. state of Ohio have similar methods of predicting water quality. The experts on the U.S. West Coast say predictive modeling may be the best tool they have until technology advances and offers a faster way of testing the water in the lab.
