　　According to the “White Paper on the Health of Chinese White-Collar Workers,” published by the Chinese Medical Doctors Association, the Chinese Hospital Association, the Beijing Health Care Association, and the Ciming Checkup Group on December 6, high-income groups between the ages 35 and 50 are biologically (生物学上) ten years older than their actual age. Sixty percent are over-fatigued (过劳的) and 76 percent are in sub-health. Twenty percent feel lonely and 70 percent of them are unsatisfied and unhappy, the report said.

　　The environmental pollution is getting more and more seriously today. There is so much for us to think about when noticing so many plastic bags piled everywhere. The sky is not blue any more and the water pollution is getting worse as well. What makes me worry most is that many people have not realized what difficulty situation we are facing with. Acid rain from coal-fired power plants is reducing agricultural yields. Poor planning deforested the area in several years. For example, the Chinese cut down large quantities of trees in the early years, at the source of the yellow river, which led to the disappearance of big forests and terrible floods. As a result ，the Huangtu plateau which was once covered with grass and forests turned into barrens that supported fewer plants.

　　To protect the environment, I have had more vegetables than meat. When I finish washing the clothes, I usually use the water to clean the floor. If I see the dripping tap,I will fix the tap as soon as possible. I would rather choose cloth bag rather than plastic bag when I am going shopping. Otherwise, I have planted many trees.

　　I am firmly under the belief that we should protect the world start from ourselves. What we are suffering is only a small part of what the earth once suffered. If we don't take action to show respect to the environment, we will have to confront an increasingly awful situation. Measures should be taken to protect the environment on which we are relying.The government is supposed to explore renewable resource. Governments should forbid destroying vegetation, rivers and lakes, oceans, as and the atmosphere as well. More attention ought to be paid to ecological environment and sustainable development. Only by improving the way we treat the environment can we get along well with it. Only by being kind to the environment, we can save ourselves.

　　There is only one definition of success-to be able to spend your life in your own way. To what extent do you agree or disagree-with this definition of success? Support your position by using reasons and examples from your reading, your own experience, or your observation of others.

　　Some people define success simply as the ability to choose how to spend ones life. Under this definition, people who have the freedom to do whatever they want at any time they choose would presumably be the most successful ones, while those who have no such freedom would be the biggest failures. Viewing the definition in this light reveals three serious problems with it.

　　The chief problem with this definition of success is that by the definition nearly all people would be regarded as failures. The reason for this is simple. Most people have extremely limited choices in what they can do and when they can do it. In other words, unrestricted freedom of choice is a luxury only a few people-perhaps a handful of tyrannical dictators and ultra-wealthy individuals-can afford.

　　Secondly, people who have a high degree of freedom in choosing their lifestyle often acquire it through means that would not earn them the accolade of being successful. For example, lottery winners or people who inherit a great deal of money may be able to spend their life in any way they choose, but few people would regard them as successful merely due to their financial fortune.
